AN ACT forming a justice’s district in the county of Edgar.

District for justice of the peace & constable formed.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That all that portion of Edgar county north of the town of Grand View, and west of the Sugar creek timber, by an east and west, north and south lines, beginning on the north and south line between Edgar and Coles counties, thence due east so as to exclude the Hickory Grove, thence due north to the county line so as to include the mulberry grove, and all the little Embarrass timber in said county, be, and the same is hereby constituted a district for the election of a justice of the peace and constable.
Election to be held
for one justice & one constable.
Their power & duty.
Sec. 2. The county commissioners court of the county of Edgar, are hereby authorized and required to cause an election to be held on or before the first day of April next, or as soon thereafter as practicable, for one justice of the peace and one constable, in said district; and at each quadrennial election thereafter, the officers elected shall hold their offices until the next general election for justices of the peace and constables, at which time their successors shall be elected as in other cases, and the person so elected shall have and exercise jurisdiction, hold their offices by the same tenure and under the same regulations in all respects as other justices of the peace and constables of this State.
This act to be in force from and after its passage.

1Lunsford R. Noel introduced SB 34 in the Senate on December 30, 1836. The Senate passed the bill on January 3, 1837. The House of Representatives concurred on February 6. On February 11, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
