AN ACT to change the name of the Town of Contreville.
1Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the name of the town of Centreville, in the county of Schuyler, be and the same is hereby changed to the name of Ripley, and by that name it shall hereafter be known and called.
Sec. 2. This act to take effect from and after its passage.

1On July 11, 1837, William A. Richardson in the House of Representatives presented the petition from citizens of Schuyler County, requesting passage of a law changing the name of Centreville to Ripley. The House referred the petition to a select committee. In response to this petition,
Richardson from the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 5 in the House on July 13. The House passed the bill on July 14. The Senate concurred on July 18. On July 20, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
