AN ACT in relation to the Municipal Court of Chicago, and for other purposes.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the judge of the municipal court of the city of Chicago shall possess all and singular the powers, and he is hereby required to

perform all the judicial duties appertaining to the office of judge of the circuit courts of this state, and to issue all such writs and process as is or may hereafter, by statutory provisions, be made issuable from the circuit courts of this state.

1John J. Hardin introduced HB 63, originally titled “A Bill in relation to the County of Livingston,” in the House of Representatives on July 15, 1837. The House referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on July 19 with an amendment, in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended, amending the title so as to read “A Bill in relation to the Municipal Court of Chicago, and for Other Purposes.” On July 20, the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on Canals and Canal Lands. The Committee on Canals and Canal Lands reported back the bill on July 21 with an amendment, in which the Senate concurred. The Senate passed the bill as amended. The House concurred with the Senate amendments on July 21. On July 21, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
