1Peter Butler introduced the bill in the Senate on December 28, 1838. The Senate passed the bill on January 17. Meanwhile, Wyatt B. Stapp had introduced a House version (HB 144) in the House of Representatives on January 12. The House passed the bill on January 16. The Senate tabled this
bill on January 22. On February 9, the House concurred with the Senate version. On
February 12, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.

2The 1831 law appropriated $200 to Knox County to build a bridge across Spoon River and required notifications for construction bids by October 1831. Apparently, the
bids for construction never materialized and, therefore, this 1839 law was necessary.
