AN ACT to change the name of the town of Leesburg.

Name of town changed.
Proviso.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the town of Leesburg, in the county of Montgomery, which has been laid off agreeably to law, and a plat thereof recorded pursuant to the statute in such cases, shall be, and the same is hereby, changed to that of Zanesville; by which latter name it shall be known and called in all public records and documents; and in all legal transactions where it shall be necessary to name said town or place, the name ofZanesville shall be used; Provided, however, That the change of the name of saidtown shall in nowise affect any contracts or conveyances heretofore made or entered into, or any other legal transaction or business whatever.
Sec. 2. This act to take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

1On January 21, 1839, Representative Josiah Fisk presented a petition, which became the impetus of the bill, to the House of Representatives, which referred the petition to a select committee. On January 23, Fisk of the select committee introduced HB 182 in the House. On February 3, the House passed the bill. On February 19, the Senate passed the bill. On February 22, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
