Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly
Sec.[Section] 1. That the County Commissioners Court of Macon County, be and they are hereby required to stay execution upon the property of John McMennaway late Sheriff of Macon County for the term of nine months from the fourth day of March next.
Sec. 2. That the said Commissioners be and they are hereby authorised to settle the accounts of the said John McMennaway on the principles of equity and justice and shall allow him his Commission on all taxes heretofore1 Collected and paid into the treasury by him, and also allow him for all losses sustained by, [and?] in consequence of persons not being able to pay their taxes; provided that no allowance shall be made where it is clearly shown that such loss was occasioned by the negligence or inattention of said McMennaway.
