Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois Represented in the general Assembly that Mary Harrell of Clinton County be and she is hereby authorised and empowered to sell either at private sale or public auction as she shall deem best one Hundred and fifteen acres of land situate in clinton county in the North West Quarter of section thirteen in Township one North of Range five West of the third principal Meridian and formerly belonged to Theophilus Harrell Decased and now the property of the widow and heirs of the said Theophilus Harrell deceased and the said Mary Harrell is hereby empowered to receive and receipt for the purchase money on such sale.
Sec 2 the said Mary Harrell shall before she performs any act whatever under the authority of this act ^shall^ enter into bond to the people of the state of Illinois in the sum of eight Hundred Dollars with such security as the Probate Justice of the Peace of shall require of said Clinton County shall require conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties imposed on her by this act which bond shall be filed with the said Probate Justice of the Peace of said county, and may in case of the breach of the condition of said bond be proceeded upon in the maner prescribed by law against administrators and there securitys on administration lands

Sec 3 The said Marry Harrell is hereby empow empowered to make seal and deliver and acknowledge, all nessasary deeds of conveyance for said land and when she receives the purchase money she is hereby required to purchase other lands in this state with the same in the name of the heirs of Theophilus Harrell deceased and she is hereby required to make report of all her [...?] proceedings under this act to the said [...?] probate Justice of the Peace of said county of clinton

1Joseph Huey introduced the bill in the House of Representatives on February 20, 1839. The House referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary reported back the bill on March 1, recommending its rejection. The House refused to engross the bill for a third reading.
