“An act making an appropriation for the Penitentiary”

Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the sum of twenty-three hundred dollars, be, and the same is hereby appropriated, to defray the incidental |
expenses of thePenitentiary , from the 22 of November, 1838, to the close of the present session of the General Assembly, and to pay the superintendent the balance due him as superintendent; and the sum
of five hundred and sixty-five and 63/100 dollars, expended by him out of his own funds for the use of said Penitentiary: Also to pay the sum of ten hundred and thirty-seven and 36/100 dollars loaned by the Inspectors of said Penitentiary to ^the^ superintendent out of the building fund.
Sec[Section] 2 The above appropriations shall be subject to the order and direction of the inspectors
of the Penitentiary; and a detailed statement of the manner in which they expend the same, shall be laid
before the next General Assembly.
Sec 3 The auditor of Public accounts is hereby authorized to draw his order on the Treasurer
of the State, in favor of the inspectors of said Penitentiary, upon their application for the aforesaid appropriation.
