AN ACT describing the mode of expending a part of the money arising from the sale of saline lands, which was appropriated to Marion county.

Bridge.
Com’rs to locate bridge.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That there is hereby appropriated the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, out of the money arising from the sale of saline lands in Gallatin county, and which was appropriated to Marion county for the purpose of erecting bridges in said county. The aforesaid sum of one hundred and fifty dollars is hereby appropriated for the purpose of erecting a bridge across the Raccoon fork of Crooked creek, in Marion county, on the road leading from Salem, in Marion county, to Nashville, in Washington county; the place to be selected and money expended under the direction of the county commissioners of Marion county, after said money is received by said county. 2

1On February 20, 1839, William Gaston introduced SB 255 in the Senate. On February 23, the Senate passed the bill without amendment, and referred it to the House. On March 2, the House too passed the bill without amendment. That same day, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.

2In 1836, the General Assembly ordered the sale of the Gallatin saline reserve lands, and appropriated $400 of the avails to Marion County, to be used for building bridges.
