AN ACT to legalize the sale of section sixteen, in township nine north, of range two east, in the county of Knox.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the sales heretofore made by the school commissioner of Knox county of section numbered sixteen, in township numbered nine, north of the base line, of range numbered two, east of the fourth principal meridian, in said county, and of every part and parcel thereof, be, and the same are hereby, ratified and confirmed; and the titles acquired under such sales are hereby declared valid, to all intents and purposes, both in law and equity, as fully as if all the provisions of law relating to the sales of school lands had been strictly pursued and complied with.2
Sec. 2. This act shall be in force from and after its passage.

1Wyatt B. Stapp presented a petition of the citizens of Knox County to the House of Representatives on December 31, 1838, requesting relief. Stapp introduced HB 95 on January 1, 1839. The House referred the bill to a select committee on January3. The committee reported back on January 5 and recommended several amendments, to which the House concurred and passed the bill. The Senate passed the bill on February 7. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 15 and the act became law.
