AN ACT concerning the revenue in Clay county.
1Appointment of collectors in Clay co.

Compensation
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners’ court of the county of Clay, are hereby authorized to appoint a county collector at their next March term, to
collect the State and county tax for the year 1839. The said collector shall be allowed
time to the first day of July next, for the collection of the same, at which time he shall pay the same over as other
collectors are required to do. Said collector shall be allowed, as a compensation for his services, ten per cent. upon the amount of the State tax
collected by him.

Lincoln was also a member. The committee reported back without recommending an amendment
on January 21. The House passed the bill on January 30. The Senate passed the bill on February 1. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 3 and the act became law.
