Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General assembly That so much of the state road leading from Rushville in Schuyler county to Commerce in Hancock county, as lies between the East end of State Street in Kimball’s addition to the town of Nauvoo and the missisippi river at Commerce, is hereby vacated and in lieu thereof the following ^route^ shall be established as a part of said road towit: commencing at the East end of state street in Kimball’s addition to the town of Nauvoo and following the same to Commerce street, and thence following said last mentioned street to the town of Nauvoo

1On January 9, 1840, Sidney H. Little in the Senate presented the petition of citizens of Hancock County, requesting the alteration of a state road. The Senate referred the petition to the Committee on Public Roads. In response to this petition, Joseph Borough of the Committee on Public Roads introduced SB 84 in the Senate on January 11. The Senate passed the bill on January 29. The Senate informed the House of Representatives on the bill’s passage, but the latter took no action.
