To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled
We the undersigned citizens of Lock Port and vicinity also of D[?]on’s ridge in Henry County Kentucky and of Clay Lick in Owen County would respectfully represent that we labor under great inconvenience for the want of mail facilities through this Section of Country between Pleasureville & Owenton (a distance of some thirty miles) there being but one Office (viz Clay Lick) on the route between the two places, and that of doubtful continuance it being made to depend on its nett proceeds for support. We would farther represent that there is no office on either side of the proposed route in a distance of ten miles
We would therefore petition your Honorable Body to establish a route intersecting the one from Madison [Ia?] to Frankfort Ky at Pleasureville and the one from Warsaw Ky to Lexington Ky at Owenton and the establishment of an office at [Drenons?] Ridge, and one at Lock Port
Your petitioners would farther represent that in their Opinion the expences of the above named route which would not exceed one hundred Dollars pr[per] anum (the mail to be caried once a week to and from either place) would mostly if not wholy be defrayed out of the nett proceeds of the three Offices on the route.
