AN ACT changing the times of holding circuit courts in Jersey, Cass, and Scott counties.
1Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the times of holding the circuit courts in the counties of Jersey, Cass, and Scott, shall hereafter be as follows:
Times of holding courts in Jersey.
In the county of Jersey, on the Thursdays before the first Mondays in May and November.
Cass.
In the county of Cass, on the Thursdays before the fourth Mondays in May, and first Mondays in October.
Return of process.
In the county of Scott, on the fourth Monday in May, and first Mondays in October; and all causes depending
in said courts respectively, shall stand for trial at the terms aforesaid, and all process which has been or may be issued, returnable to the terms as heretofore
fixed by law, shall be deemed and held to be returnable, at the terms fixed by this
act, and all reeognizances or obligations required to be complied with in the said courts, at the terms heretofore
provided for, shall be deemed and held as recognizances or obligations to be complied
with at the terms fixed by this act.

1On January 20, 1840, Worthington J. Gibbs introduced the bill, originally entitled “An Act to Remove the State House to the
city of Cairo,” in the Senate. On January 25, the Senate amended the bill and the bill’s title and passed the bill
by a vote of 25 yeas to 11 nays. On January 28, the House of Representatives passed the bill. On January 30, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
