An ACT to amend the several laws to provide for the distribution of the interest on
the school, college, and seminary fund.
1Distribution of interest on school fund.
Basis for distribution.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly, That the commissioners
of the school fund, in making a distribution of the interest on the school, college, and seminary fund
to the several counties in this State under the census of eighteen hundred and forty, be and they are hereby authorized
and required to adopt, as a basis for such distribution, the census returns of the United States’ Marshal
from such counties as may have failed to take and make return of the census under
the laws of this State previous to the passage of this act.

1John Hamlin introduced SB 83 to the Senate on January 4, 1841. The Senate passed the bill the next day. The House of Representatives passed the bill on January 6. The Council of Revision approved the bill on January 7 and the act became law.
