An ACT to extend the boundaries of the County of Carroll.

Addition to Carroll county
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the east half of townships twenty-three, twenty-four and twenty-five north, in range seven east of the fourth principal meridian, shall hereafter be attached to and form a part of the county of Carroll.2

Sec. 2. Justices of the peace and constables residing within the aforesaid boundaries shall continue in office and shall have and exercise the same jurisdiction as other justices and constables within the original boundaries of the county of Carroll: Provided, however, That the qualified voters residing within the limits hereby proposed to be attached to the county of Carroll, shall at the next August election vote for or against being so attached, and if a majority of said voters should vote for the same, then the limits of the county of Carroll shall be as above declared, and if the majority should not so vote, then the limits of said county shall be and remain as heretofore.

1On February 10, 1841, James B. Moore introduced SB 195 in the Senate. On February 24, following the insertion of additional language, the Senate passed the bill. On February 27, the House passed the bill without further amendment. That same day, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.

2When the General Assembly created Carroll County out of Jo Daviess County in 1839, it added these three half townships, which had also been part of Jo Daviess County, to Ogle County.
3The Senate added this last proviso on February 24, 1841. On August 2, 1841, residents of these half townships voted 25 to 2 in favor of remaining part of Ogle County.
