^ Strike out all after the enacting clause & insert the following Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General assembly^
Sec[Section] 1. That so much of the public road leading from Mount vernon, in Jefferson County to Brownsville in Jackson County as runs across the North East fourth of the South East quarter of Section thirty one in Township Two South, Range three East of the third principal Meredian be and the same is hereby changed so as to run direct to the South East corner of said forty tract, Thence West on a line with said forty acre tract until it intersects the road [as] at present laid out and traveled, and the old road as hereby changed is vacated. Provided. That such change shall not be made, until the consent of the County Commissioners court of said County shall be first had; and Provided further, That said Court may [give its] consent thereto without petition [be]ing presented therefor as is required in other cases, if they shall deem such change right and proper.
