Resolved by the General Assembly of Illinois, That our Senators in Congress be instructed, and our Representatives respectfully requested, to use their utmost exertions to procure the passage of a law providing for the redemption of all sums of continental paper which may at present be in the hands of revolutionary soldiers, their wives, or heirs, and which was received from Government, for services rendered during the war of the revolution.
Resolved, That His Excellency, the Governor transmit a copy of the above resolution to each of our Senators and Representatives in Congress.2
1John Moore introduced the resolution in the Senate on January 6, 1841, and the Senate adopted it. The House of Representatives concurred on January 21.

2Upon introducing the resolution in the Senate, Moore noted that he did so on behalf of the surviving soldiers of the American Revolution living in his electoral district. Moore hoped to alert Congress to the plight of these constituents, many of whom still had held unredeemed continental currency.
