Resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring herein, That all resolutions heretofore passed prohibiting Congress from locating

the Cumberland road through any part of this State, excepting to Alt[on], be, and the same are, hereby rescinded; and that Congress may have [the] right to continue said road through the State of Illinois, to any po[int] which may be deemed most proper.
1William Hunter introduced the resolution in the Senate on December 19, 1840. The Senate adopted it by a vote of 26 yeas to 13 nays. On December 21, the House of Representatives tabled the resolution. On January 7, 1841, the House took up the resolution, committing it to the Committee of the Whole and making it the special order of the day for January 11. On February 27, the House discharged the Committee of the Whole from further consideration, tabling the resolution.
