Arnold, Charles

Charles Arnold lived in Springfield, Illinois by 1835. By 1836, he was the deputy sheriff of Sangamon County, Illinois. He was a carpenter by trade, but also served as collector for Sangamon County for some time and as sheriff of the county from 1848-50. He was re-elected county sheriff in 1852. In 1850, he owned $1,800 worth of property. Politically, Arnold was a Whig and, by 1859, a Republican.
