After running unsuccessfully for the Illinois General Assembly in 1832, Beall, a Whig from Wabash County, won a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives in 1840. He lost his bid for reelection in 1842. He was a postmaster in Mount Carmel, Illinois, and in 1850, he was serving as a county judge.
