Joshua V. Brown was a tailor and postmaster. In December 1847, he married Sarah Blevins in Edgar County, Illinois. In 1850, Brown was a tailor living in Grand View, Illinois; he owned $400 in real property. By 1860, he was living in Kansas Township and owned real property valued at $200. Brown later moved to Tuscola, Illinois, where he served as postmaster from 1869 to 1872.
