Dean, Frederick S.

Frederick S. Dean was a gold prospector and husband of Harriet W. Dean. In March 1849, Dean joined with other citizens of Springfield and Sangamon County, Illinois, in forming the Illinois and California Mining Mutual Insurance Company to finance gold prospecting in California. Dean left with other members of the company for California on March 27, 1849. He returned to Springfield in December 1850.
