Dunn, George G.

Dunn's family moved to Monroe County, Indiana, where Dunn completed preparatory studies and later graduated from Indiana University. Dunn moved to Bedford, Indiana in 1833 where he taught school and studied law. He earned admittance to the bar in 1835 and started a practice in Bedford. He served as prosecuting attorney of Lawrence County in 1842. Dunn won election, as a Whig, to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1846, serving alongside Abraham Lincoln in the Thirtieth Congress. He ran an unsuccessful reelection campaign in 1848. Dunn won election to the Indiana Senate in 1850, and resigned in 1852. Dunn won election, as a Republican, to the U.S. Congress in 1854, serving until 1857.
