Between March and December 1837, Eastham moved from Morgan County, Illinois, to Sangamon County. In March 1841, he was appointed Sangamon County's circuit clerk and a director of the State Bank of Illinois. Prior to that, he had been the register of the federal land office in Springfield. At the time of his death, Eastham was a member of the Springfield lodge of the Odd Fellows.
