George L. Eastman was a farmer and clerk. He moved with his parents from his native Maine to Auburn, Illinois, in 1836 or 1837. Eastman spent his early years on the family farm. In 1850, he was living with his mother and working as a clerk in Springfield, Illinois. In April 1852, he emigrated to California. In 1870, he returned to Springfield, where he engaged in farming.
