Ewart married Charlotte White in Butler County, Ohio, in 1829. In 1836, they settled in Greenup, Illinois, where Ewart, a physician, also served as postmaster, justice of the peace, and clerk of the Cumberland County Circuit Court. In 1850, Greenup gave his occupation as merchant, and he owned $5,000 worth of real estate.
