Abram A. Halsey married Elizabeth LeFlore in 1835 in Mississippi, and the couple had four children. In 1841, Halsey acquired 240 acres of public land in Holmes County, Mississippi. As an adult, Halsey's son Greenwood claimed one-eighth Choctaw descent as part of the Dawes Act in Carroll County, Mississippi, but his application was rejected.
