Heath, a "locofoco" Democrat, represented District Seventeen, Lawrence and Crawford counties, in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1854 to 1856. He married Melissa Allison on November 28, 1830, in Lawrence County and in 1850 the couple had eight children. Heath listed his occupation as a farmer, and in 1860 he owned $12,000 in real estate with a personal estate valued at $4,000.
