Huckleberry, Henry

Died: 1859-03-15 Mechanicsburg, Illinois

Soon after his birth, Huckleberry moved with his parents to Kentucky, settling near Louisville. Huckleberry and his parents later moved to Clark County, Indiana, where he married Susan Wigal, with whom he had ten children. Huckleberry and his family moved to Sangamon County, Illinois, in October 1833. In 1836, Huckleberry purchased eighty-one acres along Clear Creek west of Mechanicsburg. In 1850, he was a farmer who owned real estate valued at $3,400. A veteran of the War of 1812, Huckleberry saw action at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
