Alvin Hyde was born in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and was raised on his family’s farm. He was educated in the local schools and subsequently continued to work as a farmer. Hyde married Josephine A. Manning in 1858 and about 1865 he and his family settled permanently in Brookfield, where he became a box manufacturer and lumber dealer. In politics, he was a Republican. Hyde was survived by four children.
