Kelly, James

James Kelly was a building contractor, canal builder, and railroad contractor. Kelly moved from his native Pennsylvania to Ohio, settling in Columbiana County. Entering the building trade, Kelly first constructed canals and later railroads. In 1850, Kelly was a railroad contractor living in Columbiana County, Ohio, and he owned real estate worth $9,700. In 1860, Kelly was working as a coal dealer and living in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and he owned $1,000 in real property.
