Arius N. Kingsbury was an attorney and county judge. As a child, he received his education primarily at home. In 1841, he moved to Illinois, settling in Mount Carmel. In 1851, he began studying law under Michael G. Dale of Greenville, Illinois. He gained admittance to the Illinois bar in 1855, practiced law in Greenville for several years, then moved to Hillsboro, Illinois, in 1857. In 1859, he married Celeste Hazard, with whom he eventually had at least five children. By 1860, he owned $1,500 in real estate and another $800 in personal property.In 1873, voters in Montgomery County elected him county judge. He remained in Hillsboro until his death.
