Father of George Kirby, Cyrus moved from Kentucky to a spot near Alton, Illinois, prior to the War of 1812. He relocated to Clary's Grove, Illinois, in 1822. In 1826, Kirby purchased over 150 acres of land in an area that would later be subsumed into Menard County. In 1850, Kirby was still in Meanrd County, where he remained until his death in 1858.
