Leggat, Andrew W.

In the late 1840s and early 1850s, Leggat worked as a clerk in New York City. In 1848, he was president of the Junior Bachelor's Association. In 1850, Leggat was a clerk living in New York City's Fifth Ward. He was living with John Morton, a purveyor of needles and thread, who was probably his employer. From 1853 to 1857, Leggat was a trustee of common schools in the Fifth Ward. In 1859, he was a small ware merchant. In 1862, he again became a school trustee, and from 1862 to 1865, he was secretary of the Board of Trustees of Common Schools for the Fifth Ward.
