Lindsay, Isaac

Isaac Lindsay came to Illinois sometime before 1841, when he married Mary Dyer in Jacksonville. Together, they had four children. Mary died in 1850 and Lindsay married Mercy Elder the following year, with whom he had three children. By then, Lindsay was living in Springfield. Mercy died in 1858, and Lindsay married her sister, Sarah Rogers, with whom he had five children. Lindsay was a bricklayer but earned appointment as a clerk in the Sangamon County Circuit Court in 1858. He also served as assessor and collector for Springfield from 1856 to 1857. In 1860, Lindsay was working as a clerk in Springfield and owned $4,000 in real property, with a personal estate valued at $2,000.
