George W. Lynn, Jr., was an artist and U.S. Army soldier. Lynn was described as a friend of Abraham Lincoln, and during the senatorial campaign of 1858, he helped coordinate Lincoln's and Stephen A. Douglas's speeches in Sullivan, Illinois. In 1860, Lynn was employed as an artist and had a personal estate of $200. In June 1861, Lynn enlisted in Company E of the Twenty-First Illinois Infantry Regiment at the rank of sergeant. Lynn received promotion to first lieutenant in April 1863. In December 1864, he was wounded by a musket ball to the eye that passed through his skull. He nevertheless remained in the military, receiving promotion to captain in March 1865. He mustered out of the service in December 1865.
Lynn married Martha J. Nees in January 1876.
