Miller, Jacob W.

Miller attended public schools and studied law. He earned admittance to the New Jersey bar in 1823 and practiced in Morristown, New Jersey. He won election to the New Jersey General Assembly, in 1832. He served on the State Council from 1838 to 1840. Miller won election, as a Whig, to the U.S. Senate in 1840 and served until 1853. He served alongside Abraham Lincoln in the Thirtieth Congress.
