In 1831, Moore married Elizabeth Gibson in St. Clair County, Illinois. By November 1832, he had settled in Springfield, Illinois, where he operated a copper and tin ware manufacturing and merchandising business. In 1850, he lived in Springfield, and owned $1,800 worth of real estate. In 1852, he closed his business and moved to California for a short time. By 1860, Moore had returned to Illinois and was living in Petersburg, where he worked as a coppersmith.
