Orth, George H.

George H. Orth was a wool manufacturer and military officer. On June 7, 1848, he married Martha A. Jewett in Tazewell County, Illinois. The couple relocated to Steubenville, Ohio sometime before 1850 and had at least six children together, although not all of them survived to adulthood. Orth owned wool factories in Steubenville as well as in Connellsville and Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, he served in Company C of the Fourth Battalion of the Ohio Infantry and attained the rank of sergeant.
