Regnier moved from Ohio to New Salem, Illinois, in 1832 and began practicing medicine. He moved to Clary's Grove in 1836 and then to Petersburg. In 1850, Regnier was living with his wife Sophia and six children and owned $940 in real estate. He was a Whig.
