Routt, John L.

Routt married Hester Ann Woodson in McLean County, Illinois, in 1845. They settled in Bloomington, where Routt initially worked as a carpenter. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Routt was serving as the sheriff of McLean County. In 1862, he enlisted as the captain of the 94th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and was later promoted to division quartermaster with the rank of colonel.
