Robb, John

John Robb was a federal government official. In the mid 1840s, he was a clerk in the U.S. General Land Office in Washington, DC. In the late 1840s, Robb became principal clerk of public lands. He subsequently left the General Land Office and became principal clerk to the clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1850, he was living in Washington's Second Ward in a household with several other government clerks. By 1853, Robb was working as a clerk in the U.S. Bureau of Pensions. By 1859, he had advanced to chief clerk, a position he held until 1861. In 1860, Robb owned real property valued at $5,000 and a personal estate of $900.
