Stratton, J. D.

J. D. Stratton was a joiner, carpenter, boarding house operator, and wagon maker in Springfield, Illinois. In 1849, Stratton was employed as a joiner and carpenter at the architectural firm of J. A. & J. C. Sutton. In December 1849, he became proprietor of the Kentucky House. In 1850, Stratton was living with his wife and seven children and was employed as a wagon maker. He was an active and high-ranking member of the Freemasons. In April 1852, Stratton's wife and son died, and he moved to California, settling in Oakland, where he was working as a wagon maker in 1860.
