In 1820, Sweet and his wife, Sarah, and their children--including Daniel and Morris-- left New York for Shawneetown, Illinois. Sweet farmed there until 1824, when he moved his family north to Morgan and then Scott counties. In 1837, he settled in the Loami area of western Sangamon County, where he resided for the rest of his life.
