Brother of Henry B. Truett, Myers was an early resident in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Around 1841, entered into a short-lived partnership with Benjamin H. Campbell called Campbell & Truett. He also invested in public land, with extensive tracts in Jo Daviess, Lee, and Sangamon counties. By 1850, Truett was living in Galena with his family and was employed as a merchant. Truett eventually moved to San Francisco, California, where he became a speculator in land and other investments.
