Trumbull, Julia

The daughter of Springfield, Illinois, physician, Gershom Jayne, Julia married Lyman Trumbull on June 23, 1843. Together, they had six children. Julia had lived in Springfield all of her childhood and become a close personal friend of Mary Lincoln, serving as a bridesmaid at the Lincoln's wedding. When the Illinois General Assembly selected Lyman Trumbull for U.S. Senate over Abraham Lincoln in February 1855, Mary permanently ended her friendship with Julia.
