Frederick T. Wallace was an attorney, state legislator, and city government official. Wallace left his hometown of Waterbury, Vermont, at the age of eighteen, moving to Western Massachusetts to read law. After elevating to the bar, he opened a law practice. In 1848, he won election, as a Democrat, to the Massachusetts General Court, serving in that body for two terms. He moved his law practice to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1853. In 1858, he won election to the City Council, holding the position of councillor for two terms. He also served two terms as assistant city solicitor.
