Wilkinson, Samuel

Samuel Wilkinson was a farmer, public servant, merchant, and Republican. In May 1845, he married Margery Simpson, with whom he eventually had at least five children. In 1850, he and his family lived in Peoria County, Illinois and owned $1,200 in real estate. He served as one of Farmington, Illinois’ town supervisors in 1857 and 1860 as well as from 1862 to 1863. By 1860, he owned $12,100 in real estate and another $2,600 in personal property. He was one of Fulton County’s alternate delegates to the 1858 Illinois Republican Convention and served as one of the county’s delegates to the 1860 Illinois Republican Convention.
