Wilkins, Thomas

Thomas Wilkins was a physician, army surgeon, and early resident of Vandalia, Illinois. In January 1845, he married Elizabeth Truett in Crawford County, Illinois. The couple would have one son together. In 1850, Wilkins was practicing medicine in Fayette County and owned real property valued at $1,000. Elizabeth Truett died in August 1858. In 1860, Wilkins and his son were living in a hotel in Vandalia, where he continued to practice medicine. From February to May 1862, Wilkins served as first assistant surgeon with the Fifty-Fourth Illinois Infantry Regiment.
